Cats on a Plane

Ten years ago a movie opened in theaters starring Samuel L. Jackson and Julianna Margulies, two actors I really admire. However, just from the movie's title, I knew it was something that would give me nightmares if I ever saw it. The preview alone made me wary of stepping foot on a plane--a form of transportation that is a necessary evil in my life.
I know it's a little dramatic to compare flying one-way from Virginia to New York with Rory to Snakes on a Plane. But from the time I put her in her carrier up until I finally got back to my apartment, my heart was racing, I was nauseous, and in all honesty--like watching a suspense movie--I had no idea what was going to happen.
Needless to say, Rory did better than I did.
I flew back to Virginia last Friday to celebrate my sister's college graduation. We had over a dozen family members travel in from three states. It was a lot of chatting and eating and picture-taking. At the end of the whirlwind weekend, I was finally going to bring Rory to New York after two months of separation. But we both had to survive the plane ride.
She's doing about as well as I expected. The city noises freak her out, and she's not too sure about the apartment's sloping floors. But she's already figured out how to jump on top of the refrigerator, and she was very happy to see the fur blanket on my bed. It'll take some adjusting, but she'll be a bonafide city cat before you know it.
