Let's play two truths and a lie. Friday was my first time using the Uber app. I walked past a snake on Saturday. I attended my first bachelorette party this weekend.
OK, so it's a trick question. They're all true.
This weekend I traveled to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, to celebrate one of my dearest friend's bachelorette party. I've been to lots of weddings—I've even been a bridesmaid a time or two—but this marked the first time I was part of the bride's bachelorette squad. And I loved every second of it. Friday I flew to Myrtle Beach and, because all of the rental cars were booked for the weekend, I ended up calling an Uber to drive me from the airport to the beach house. It wasn't my first time taking Uber; just my first time using the app and calling an Uber for myself. In Myrtle Beach of all places! I guess there's a first time for everything.
The weather on Friday was gorgeous. Once everyone arrived, we headed to a very scenic restaurant for a late dinner. After toasting the bride with prosecco and sharing an array of appetizers, I had one of the best mahi-mahi dishes of my life. Oh, and there was shared dessert: brownies and toll-house cookie cake with ice cream. After dinner we drove back to the house for a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity which lasted well into the wee hours of Saturday morning.
With less than 6 hours of sleep, I woke up to a rainy Saturday. Not that we were concerned. We had plenty of fun things to do until the storm passed. The application of flash tats, more fun bachelorette games, and lunch at a local deli. By the time we made it to the beach, the skies had cleared and the sun was shining. We circled our beach chairs and cranked up the music. The beach game we played garnered some attention from our fellow beachgoers. Eleven girls, drawing pictures in the sand with sticks...Yeah, you could say we were a bit of a spectacle.
(Sidenote: The snake! We were gathering beach chairs and a couple of the girls saw Mr. Slithers in the grass nearby. Pretty sure if I'd seen it, I'd have run all the way back to the house, no questions asked. Needless to say we were all on high alert for the rest of the afternoon.)
Dinner that night was simple: pizza! And then it was time for gift giving. A little sweet, a little sassy, a little sexy. All perfect for the bride! My favorite part of the weekend, I think—besides just getting away from the city and dipping my feet in the water—was Fish Bowl, a game I've already decided will be introduced as a new tradition with my family on Thanksgiving.
My flight back to the city was early Sunday morning, and my sweet cousin picked me up just as the sun was rising. It just so happened that she, too, was flying to New York to visit her brother and newborn nieces. So it was a special opportunity to catch up, and even share a taxi ride! As happy as I am to be home, I will never forget this weekend and the dear, lovely bride-to-be that brought us all together.
