I Smell Snow

Snow days in New York are very rare. It takes a lot--like, say, a blizzard--to close down businesses for a day. And then there are still a lot of places that will open anyway.
With Thursday's impending winter storm, the ABRAMS offices announced it would be closed Wednesday evening. Knowing I didn't have to wake up early the next morning, I took advantage of the unexpected night off and went to be much later than usual. About 2:00 in the morning, I woke up to a white haze outside my window, and at least half a foot of snow covering my patio. And that was just the beginning.
A little snow--or a lot; 13.2 inches, to be exact--wasn't going to keep me inside all day, though. I didn't actually sleep in as planned; my body was still programmed to wake up for the work day. (I napped later, though. Because: SNOW DAY!) I braved the wind and snow and trudged to the gym...which was open! And en route I learned that pretty much every business on my street was open, too. The cleaners, the pizza place, the vegan cupcake shop, the hardware store, the wine store. And sweetgreen (my go-to salad lunch place).
Other than hitting the gym and eating a delicious Harvest Bowl for lunch, I didn't accomplish much Thursday. I watched a lot of TV (finished season 2 of UnREAL, thank you, Hulu) and finished reading Victoria by Daisy Goodwin (who doesn't love a novel based on Queen Victoria and her Prince Albert???). If I had real snow gear, I may have ventured into Central Park, where thousands of people were taking advantage of the fresh snowfall, sledding, skating, building snowmen, the like. But all in all it was a pretty successful (and restful) snow day in the city.
This morning, I woke up thinking it was Sunday--since I'd been off yesterday--and it was challenging to get out of bed and get to work. Fortunately, it's Friday, so I have two more snow days to enjoy--before it melts!
